WP Safer (wpsafer.com) uses cookies and similar technologies to operate the service, secure it, measure usage and measure our advertising.
Types of Cookies We Use
| Type | Purpose | Example/Provider | Duration | Consent Required? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | Login, authentication, security, payment processing | Session cookie (api_session) and sign-in cookie (wp_api_token) — both sent over HTTPS only and not readable by JavaScript (HttpOnly); also Google reCAPTCHA for bot/spam protection on the login/register/forgot-password/contact pages and when the newsletter subscription form is used, and Polar.sh payment infrastructure on the checkout page to complete your purchase |
api_session: 2 hours · wp_api_token: 24 hours · reCAPTCHA/Polar: provider's own duration |
No — required for the action you requested (login/payment) to work |
| Preference | Remembering settings such as language | No separate cookie is used; your language preference is kept in the session cookie above | Same as the session cookie (2 hours) | No |
| Analytics | Measuring site usage (visits, page views) | Google Analytics 4 (loaded through Google Tag Manager) — cookies _ga, _ga_* |
_ga/_ga_*: up to 2 years |
Yes — not set until you consent |
| Review invitations | Inviting customers who have completed a purchase to review WP Safer | Trustpilot (Trustpilot A/S, Denmark). A Trustpilot script is loaded on every page but sets no cookie or browser storage on its own. After a completed purchase, Trustpilot receives a copy of your order confirmation email (your name, email address, plan, amount and order reference) and sends you a single review invitation | No cookie is set on our site · Trustpilot: provider's own retention | No — treated as a transactional notice tied to your completed purchase, like an order confirmation |
| Marketing / Advertising | Measuring how our Google ads perform (for example, whether an ad click led to a sign-up or subscription), keeping the ad click identifier so that conversions can be attributed to the right campaign, and — where you have consented — showing relevant ads | Google Tag Manager (loads our tags; does not set cookies itself) and Google Ads (Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC). Cookies:
• _gcl_au — Google Ads conversion linking (our domain)
• _gcl_aw — stores the ad click ID (gclid) when you arrive from a Google ad (our domain)
• _gac_* — campaign information, when Analytics and Ads are linked (our domain)
• IDE — ad measurement and personalisation (doubleclick.net, third-party)
• test_cookie — checks whether your browser accepts cookies (doubleclick.net)
Depending on tag settings and whether you are signed in to a Google account, Google may also set NID, RUL or DSID. |
_gcl_au, _gcl_aw, _gac_*: 90 days · IDE: 13 months in the EEA/UK, 24 months elsewhere · test_cookie: 15 minutes · NID: 6 months · RUL: 12 months · DSID: 2 weeks |
Yes — not set until you consent to advertising / marketing cookies |
Google Tag Manager. We use Google Tag Manager to load our analytics and advertising tags. The Tag Manager script is loaded only after you accept analytics or advertising cookies; until then, our pages send no requests to Google for these purposes. Tag Manager does not set cookies itself, but when it loads, Google receives technical information such as your IP address and browser details. Advertising tags (Google Ads) run only if you accept advertising / marketing cookies.
Managing Cookies
You can delete or block cookies via your browser settings; blocking essential cookies may prevent you from logging in or using some features. You can manage, change, or withdraw your consent to analytics and advertising / marketing cookies at any time via the “Cookie preferences” link at the bottom of every page. Withdrawing consent stops new cookies from being set and stops us from collecting the ad click identifier; it does not affect the lawfulness of processing before the withdrawal. Cookies already on your device are removed through your browser settings. You can also manage Google’s ad personalisation at adssettings.google.com.
