Cancelling: how to do it, and what happens afterwards

How to cancel, why your plan keeps working until the end of the period you paid for, what stops on the day access ends, how long your backups and deleted sites are kept, refunds, and closing the account entirely.

There is no contract term and no notice period: a subscription can be stopped at any point, and what you have already paid for keeps working to the end of its period. This page says how to do it, what changes on the day it takes effect, and what happens to your sites and backups afterwards.

How to cancel

Cancelling is not a button in the panel yet. Write to info@wpsafer.com from the e-mail address your account signs in with, and say that you want the subscription cancelled. If you have more than one — a plan and a storage pack, or two plans — name the one you mean, or give its order id from the Orders screen. Packs and plans are separate subscriptions and are cancelled separately.

You will get a confirmation e-mail once it is done, saying which plan was cancelled and the date your access runs to. That e-mail is the receipt for the cancellation; keep it.

What happens immediately

Cancelling means “do not charge me again”, not “switch it off now”. Two things change straight away:

  • the renewal is stopped — no further payment will be taken;
  • the Upcoming payment card on the Sites screen changes from an amount to a date, marked Cancelled · access ends.

Everything else carries on exactly as before until that date. The plan, the site allowance, the check interval, automatic updates, reports — all of it stays live through the period you have paid for. An annual plan cancelled in its second month keeps working for another ten.

Changed your mind inside that window? Write back before the end date — while the period is still running the cancellation can be reversed, and the subscription carries on renewing as if nothing had happened. After the end date you can of course start a plan again at any time.

On the day access ends

The subscription stops counting towards your allowance, and your account falls back to what is left — usually the Free plan: one site, 100 MB of backup space, uptime checks every five minutes, e-mail alerts, scheduled backups, the Site Health score. What goes quiet is everything the paid plan was buying: automatic updates, bulk actions, site groups, the extra monitoring checks, chat and webhook alerts, the monthly report, file integrity scans, the pre-update snapshot and the automatic rollback.

Nothing is deleted on that day. Your sites stay connected and listed, over the Free allowance or not; the WP Safer plugin stays on them; your existing backups stay in your account. What you lose is the work being done for you, not the things you have.

Being over the allowance only blocks one action: connecting a new site. Start a plan again and everything above comes straight back — there is no re-setup and no re-connection step.

Your backups afterwards

Download anything you want to keep before the end date, while the panel is at its most useful. After that:

  • Backups of live sites stay in your account. New scheduled backups keep running under Free limits, and the 100 MB ceiling is the thing to watch — an account well over it will show the real percentage on the storage card rather than a comfortable 100%.
  • Files in the Trash — backups of sites you deleted, and backups you deleted by hand — are kept, not purged the moment you stop paying. Thirty days after the subscription ends, if there is still something there, we e-mail you to say so. From that notice the files are kept for three more months and then permanently deleted. Renewing at any point before that gives you all of them back.
  • Deleted site records follow their own clock: a site you remove sits in the Trash for 90 days, with its access key, so it can be restored, and is then deleted for good. You can also delete it permanently yourself at any time.

Refunds when you cancel

Cancelling and asking for a refund are two different requests. Within 14 days of your first purchase we refund a paid plan in full on request; after that the period you are in is not refunded, and cancelling simply stops the next charge. EU consumers also have the statutory 14-day right of withdrawal, with the proportionate-payment rule set out in the Distance Sales Agreement.

If a refund is made, access to the plan ends when the refund is processed rather than at the end of the period — the two go together.

Closing the account entirely

Cancelling a subscription leaves the account, the sites and the backups in place. To close the account itself, write to info@wpsafer.com and ask for it. Site records, access keys and any remaining backups are deleted within 30 days of the account being closed, as set out in the Terms of Service.

Before you do that, two things are worth doing yourself, in this order: download the backups you want to keep, and disconnect the sites — rotating the access key or removing the WP Safer plugin ends our access to a site immediately, whatever else is still being tidied up. How WP Safer reaches your site covers both.
